Ceramics Workshop: Canny Clay Sculpt your own canny creation inspired by the weird and wonderful ceramic sculptures included in our current exhibition, ‘Canny Valley’.
About this Event

Over this 2.5 hour session, you will make clay pieces using coil building techniques, as a way of pushing material to be as weird as possible. This workshop will encourage you to collaborate with the material, rather than pre-plan a piece. We’ll take care of glazing and firing it for you too, all included in the price of your ticket, so it’s ready for you to take home in time for Christmas. You will need to collect your ceramic piece between Sat 12 Dec and Sat 19 Dec, Wed - Sat, 11-5pm. (Turf unfortunately doesn’t have space to hold onto ceramics pieces beyond this date, so understand that if you cannot collect by the 19th Dec at the latest, it will be disposed of or sold to fundraise for Turf.)

This is a paid workshop, with all ticket sales going towards our Permaculture campaign advocating for a permanent home for Turf and grassroots culture in Croydon. Turf is currently facing displacement by an impending Westfield development, so every clay creation made for your home helps us get one step closer to a new home for art in Croydon.

Tickets are £45 or £30 if you're already a Turf ceramics member.
If you're not already a Turf ceramics member, to join and receive a code for £15 off, plus ongoing access to our open access ceramics studio.

ABOUT JENNY CAMP:

Jenny Camp (b. 1994, Cheltenham) is an artist living and working in Croydon, London.

They are interested in tension, mess and confusion, understanding that to be human is to continually reshape your understanding of an endlessly complex world, and to sometimes get lost in the process.

Jenny has a BA in Product and Furniture Design and was a member of Conditions Studio Programme in Croydon between 2021 and 2026.

Outside of their own practice they work in a foundry and freelance as a propmaker, fabricator, and technician.

ABOUT TURF:

Turf Projects is Croydon’s homegrown, artist-led space, founded in 2013 by locals.

Grounded in themes of place and belonging, Turf creates space and opportunities that nurture emerging and under-represented creative practices. Our work aims to help people to encounter and make art together that helps shape the spaces and experiences around us.

We do this through free exhibitions, workshops, collaborative projects, affordable artist studios, making facilities, resources and two artist collectives of young artists & learning disabled artists.

Deeply rooted in Croydon, Turf shows how cultural organisations rooted in communities can create change with national ambition, relevance and impact.

We’ve created more than 600 paid opportunities for artists since 2013.

A request from the Turf team - if you book, please turn up!

Around 30% of people booking tickets don't attend. As a charity, we aim to support people who need creative opportunities the most and our tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
