About this Event



CERAMIC SCULPTURE


Learn how to make both functional and sculptural objects. Develop an understanding of materials and processes and enhance your design skills.

Build with slabs, coil pots and press mould, and explore surface techniques such as painting with coloured liquid clay slips, oxide pigments, glazing, and incorporating texture through mark making.

The course allows you to develop in a comprehensive and personal way, catering to your specific interests. The tutor will offer demonstrations and one-to-one guidance so you can working at your own pace using the processes your enjoy most.

The use of a sketchbook in and outside of class will encourage you to write down notes, gather visual and technical information and explore ideas and inspiration through. Your tutor will suggest visits to exhibitions, to broaden your knowledge, investigate new ideas and techniques, learning more about ceramic art.

All materials are provided, including a wide range of high firing clays and glazes.

This course is a wonderful way to create work in a supportive environment.Suitable for beginners and those wishing to improve upon their skills.

ABOUT THE TUTOR:

Tessa Eastman is an award-winning artist with over twenty years of experience working with clay and glaze.

Her dynamic sculpture sits at the vanguard of the contemporary ceramic art scene, offering originality, skill and a daring approach to the art form.

Tessa has been teaching since 2005, currently working at ceramic studios providing professional development including Heatherley School of Fine Art, one of London’s oldest Independent art colleges.

She holds a ceramics BA Honours from the University of Westminster (2006), and a MA from the Royal College of Art (2015).

She was shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize (2017) and she won the Craft Emergency Award (2016). Her work has been selected for the British Ceramics Biennial (2015) and she received an honourable mention at the Korean Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale (2017).
