Acclaimed pianist Joseph Holt joins BSO Acting Associate Concertmaster Boram Kang, violin, BSO Principal Cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski and soprano Catherine Wethington for a powerful chamber program that brings to life pivotal works by Russian composers who were silenced in their lifetimes. Featuring music by greats like Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Gubaidulina, the program highlights how musicians coped and responded to oppression.
The preconcert lecture with Dr. Rachel Franklin, Strathmore Music Scholar in Residence for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, invites audiences into the stories behind the music—illuminating how each composer confronted censorship in their own time and responded with courage, creativity, and conviction.
