The inaugural conference of the Tongan Researchers Network New Zealand (TRN-NZ) will bring together Tongan researchers, scholars, postgraduate students, professionals, community knowledge holders and research partners from across Aotearoa New Zealand.The conference will celebrate the growing contribution of Tongans to research and scholarship across academic disciplines and professional fields. It will provide a national platform for showcasing publications, completed and emerging research, creative scholarship, community-based knowledge and innovative research methods.
Grounded in the Tongan values of fakaʻapaʻapa (respect), tauhi vā (nurturing relationships), lototō (humility), mamahiʻi meʻa (commitment) and fetokoniʻaki (reciprocity), the conference will strengthen relationships among researchers, communities and institutions. It will also affirm the importance of research that is culturally grounded, ethically accountable and responsive to the aspirations of Tongan people.
