We have been dancing together for TEN YEARS!
It's so so so amazing that we have been doing this for so long and every year it just gets better and better. So many people have made this what it is and so let's have a party to celebrate all that we are!
This event is FREE to ALL.
4:00 - Potluck! We start by feeding our bodies. Folks will bring soup and other warm dishes. You can bring anything that suits your time and resources. There will be also be a cake. Arrive when it suits your schedule. The food will stay out through most of the celebration and visioning segment.
5:30 - Celebration and Visioning. So much has happened! This is a time to tell your story about your first dance, how the dance has impacted your life, or a magical moment at one of our dances. Jeanie will also share the history of Northern Michigan Ecstatic Dance (including the years before 2016)
Then we will dream about the future of Northern Michigan Ecstatic Dance in a interactive, dance-like activity. Bring your best ideas for what you want to see next!
7:00 - Dance! (of course) Cloudlifter will DJ a 90 min full wave for your dancing bliss. It will be getting dark when the dance begins. Turn on the lights!
Please bring:
* reusable dinner ware for yourself and to share (if a lot of us bring a few bowls and spoons everyone will be fed and we won't have any waste)
* reusable cup for drinks (there will be hot and cold), and a couple to loan out
* potluck dish
* fabric swatch (postcard size or larger) - I want to make a patchwork alter cloth with the names of everyone who has come to one of our dances. Any kind of fabric (from a piece of clothing, tapestry, fabric stash, etc.) is good. You can also bring ribbons, ric rac, patches, or other embellishments. We will incorporate it in! (It is excellent to bring multiple swatches to cover people who can't bring any)
* there will be an alter if you want to add something to it, and if there is anything else you want to contribute to the event (decorations, poetry, music, etc) we can find a way to include it.
* as always, come as you are: you can bring nothing at all and all will be provided.
All ages are welcome. Anyone who has danced with us before and anyone who has never danced with us.
Come for all or any portion. Just grab some food before your other evening plans, come for the storytelling and jet before the dance, drop in just before the tunes begin. You celebrate your way!
Located at F & M Park, near the Gazebo. You'll see us! There are lots of ways into the park so all types of mobility can be accommodated.
Port-a-potties on site, and a spigot for refilling water vessels.
Lots of shade and luscious grass.

Each time we gather we begin by relaxing into our bodies and pausing to allow our full selves to arrive. Then we explore the theme in various ways - sharing, moving, playing - to prime ourselves for expression and weave our group together.
Dance is the main event. The hour-long playlist will carry you through an experience of gradual opening, energy building, transformation, release, integration, and rest.
The dance is for free-form expression of however you are in the moment. We practice letting go and letting come, in a consent-based space.
When the music is finished there will be time for optional sharing about anything that happened during the dance. Then we close and return to our lives, with more attunement to our bodies and ourselves.
Any form of dancing or movement is allowed as long as it is safe for everyone. All people of all sizes, types, and ages welcome.
Registration not required.
Things to consider bringing to the dance:
**Yourself exactly as you are
**Water
**Clothing that will keep your temperature comfortable and allow you to move freely
Guidelines:
**Come as you are and accept others as they are
**Move in anyway you wish as long at it s safe for all
**Approach others slowly if you wish to move near or with them
**No substances: phones, alcohol, drugs
**No conversation on the dance floor, but make all the sound you like.
Take care of yourself. You are responsible for your well-being.
Check in with yourself often to make sure everything you are doing feels good to you. It can be easy to get overwhelmed or follow the group when you really would be more comfortable with something else. It is always okay to do something different if it will feel more supportive for you. Take responsibility for your experience, including by letting Jeanie know if you have a suggestion or need support around something.
Jeanie has been hosting Ecstatic Dance in Traverse City since 2016.
