A Sustainable Building Week Event
About this Event

In 2016, the City of Portland was the first in the United States to develop a deconstruction ordinance, requiring manual disassembly of older homes as an alternative to mechanical demolition. This practice safeguards neighborhoods from hazardous construction dust and promotes the recovery of building materials for reuse. Join this event to learn a bit about the history and impact of this program over 10 years. We will also highlight a case study from the ongoing Commercial Deconstruction Pilot program: Sabin CDC will join to share their success joining the pilot program for the removal of the Avenue Plaza apartments, making way for two new developments, including Oregon's first ADU built with salvaged lumber.
