About this Event
The tour begins at the Cosumnes River Preserve Visitor Center, rain or shine, with an introduction to Sandhill Crane biology, behavior, migration, and conservation. Participants will learn about the unique features of these remarkable birds and why the Central Valley plays such an important role in their annual migration.
Following the introduction, participants will either walk or drive to a viewing location, depending on where the cranes are expected to roost that evening. Along the way, guides will help participants spot and identify a variety of other wildlife, including shorebirds, ducks, geese, swans, and raptors.
Preserve docents will provide opportunities to view the cranes through spotting scopes, but participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars for the best viewing experience.
Most Sandhill Cranes in the Pacific Flyway spend their fall and winter in California before returning to Alaska and Canada to nest during the spring and summer months. Don't miss this opportunity to witness one of nature's great migrations and learn more about these fascinating birds.

This is a free program, but space is limited. By registering, you are reserving a spot that could otherwise be offered to another participant. If your plans change, please cancel your registration as soon as possible so we can accommodate those on the waitlist.
All registered participants will receive a follow-up email prior to the event asking them to confirm their attendance. You will have 48 hours to respond. If we do not receive a confirmation within that timeframe, your registration may be canceled and your spot offered to someone on the waitlist.
A donation link will be included in the confirmation email for those who would like to support environmental education, wildlife conservation, and public programs at Cosumnes River Preserve.
