Community workshop celebrating Govanhill - Scotland's most diverse community
About this Event

Every journey has a story. What’s yours?

Join us at Govanhill Baths to explore the people, journeys and cultures that have shaped Govanhill and Glasgow. Together, we’ll celebrate the area’s rich migration history and the communities who have made it home since the Baths opened in 1917. Including Irish, Jewish, Italian, Gaelic Scots, South Asian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Roma, Middle Eastern and African communities.

At the workshop, you can:

 Share ideas about Irish migration to Govanhill and Glasgow.

 Tell your story by writing a letter to a neighbour from another community.

 Record your memories in a short oral history, sharing your experiences and reflections.

Your stories will help shape exciting future projects, including school workshops, a multicultural conference in June 2027 and Govanhillians — an immersive exhibition celebrating the people, traditions and everyday lives that make Govanhill unique, as part of the Govanhill International Festival and Carnival in August 2027.

Come along, share your story and help celebrate the many journeys that make Govanhill home!

This is a Govanhill Baths Community Trust Irish History Group event. All are very welcome! The Irish Roots project is funded by the Irish Government's Emigrant Support Programme. For more information contact: [email protected]
