Yo CBRNe, it’s your birthday…
It’s unlikely that 50 Cent was aware that in 2003 there was a far more important event happening than the release of his single ‘In Da Club’… this was the fateful meeting between David Levitt and Gwyn Winfield and the genesis of a new magazine. That magazine was NBC International, and after two and a half years they decided to try and buy the title from its owner… that didn’t go so well. So, in 2006 they left and started CBRNe World! Working from two garden sheds, and whatever money they can sweep together, the two of them managed to create a brand that is still going strong 20 years later!
From 2008 when they launched their first CBRNe Convergence event, to 2011 when the magazine went from quarterly to bimonthly, the focus has been on providing a chance for people to learn from best practice in both science and response. From Litvinenko to Navalny, and Fukushima to Ukraine, CBRNE incidents big and small have happened under their watch, and the team has gone out to try and capture what made the response special – how can we all learn from it and make it better next time.
Along the way they have met a wide variety of characters – angels, rogues, heroes, and villains, all within the CBRNE family… and they invite them all to the 20th Anniversary Party! It’s being held at the brewery of a Dutch Army CBRN hero, Richard Pool, and his Puik Brewery (https://puikbieren.nl/) in Apeldoorn and even have a special CBRN brew for the evening!
The event will be a chance to come together, talk nonsense/CBRN, drink some great beers and then rock out to the sounds of the 1990s and 2000s – the best generation of music!
Apeldoorn is a short train ride from Schipol airport, and an even shorter one from the bridges of Arnhem and Nijmegen (if you want to make a longer trip of it!). There are a variety of hotels in the area to suit all pockets
