🎉 Celebrate 125 Years of the Catskill Public Library... and Help Us Look Ahead to Our Next 125! 🎉Join us on Saturday, October 24, from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of our historic Carnegie library building (10/24/1901)!
For 125 years, this remarkable building has served generations of Catskill residents. Now, as we honor its history, we’re also preparing for its future through the upcoming CPL125 Construction Project, a major restoration and modernization that will improve accessibility, enhance safety, renew our spaces, and preserve the historic character of the library for generations to come.
While the library will be closed for typical library services, our doors will be open for a FREE day filled with history, music, food, art, and celebration!
What’s happening:
👉 Local artist Jim Ebersole will unveil a brand-new oil painting of the Catskill Public Library
👉 Brunch buffet bites provided by Gracie’s
👉 Greene County Historian Jonathan Palmer and Ted Hilscher will take us back in time with a presentation and slideshow exploring what Catskill was like in the early 1900s and the history of our library
👉 The Catskill Mountain String Band will bring live music to the celebration
👉 Dessert bites provided by Banana Moon Baking
👉 Library history displays will showcase where we’ve been, while special CPL125 Construction Project displays will offer a closer look at the exciting renovations ahead and how they will prepare our historic Carnegie library for its next 125 years
👉 Limited-edition library cards featuring Jim Ebersole’s portrait of the library will be available while supplies last
👉 Party favors for our guests while supplies last
👉 A special activity area for kids
…and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the past, enjoy the present, and imagine the future of our beautiful library!
The event runs from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM. Specific times for Jonathan Palmer and Ted Hilscher’s presentation and the Catskill Mountain String Band’s performance will be announced soon.
