About this Event
Join us for a screening and film club discussion on the big screen at the Richmond Library Theatrette!
A shadowy and intoxicating film noir that spins a supernatural tale of desire, psychology and cats! In Jacques Tourneur's 1942 psychological horror classic, a lonely Serbian fashion designer in Manhattan fears an ancient village curse will transform her into a predatory panther if she feels sexual passion or romantic intimacy with her new husband. Cat People is both supernatural folk tale and film noir. Tourner and cinematographer Nicholas Musuraca eschewed horror movie conventions of the time by using techniques from German expressinist cinema to create a new type of thriller film rooted in shadow, innuendo and suspense.
Watch the film only or stay on afterwards for a post-screening film club style discussion. Tea, coffee & snacks provided.
