Ibn Battuta (1304-1369) set out from Tangier at 21 on a pilgrimage to Mecca, but the journey sparked a lifelong passion for travell. Over nearly 30 years, he journeyed some 75,000 miles across Africa, the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia, crossing deserts, sailing distant seas, and visiting the courts of powerful rulers. His adventures eventually became the Rihla, one of history's greatest accounts of medieval travel.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
