About this Event
Hundreds of thousands of informal caregivers in Connecticut help friends or family members manage a serious illness – often while juggling work, school or childcare. Two-thirds of family caregivers across the country report moderate to high emotional stress, according to AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving. While many caregivers take pride in their role, they can also experience anxiety, worry, guilt and resentment.
Join us at the Haley Mansion in Mystic for a discussion about caregiving. Hear from experts about the signs of caregiver stress and burnout – and the resources and techniques caregivers can use to care for themselves. We also want to hear from you: What questions do you have about caregiving – and the emotions that come with this important role? Submit your question when registering or bring your questions to the live panel!
Panelists include:
- Nell Lake: Author of “The Caregivers: A Support Group's Stories of Slow Loss, Courage, and Love,” a book documenting two years she spent alongside a support group of spouses, parents, and friends looking after an older adult, or person with an illness.
- Kristen Davis: Connecticut resident and since 2018, has been the primary caregiver to her husband, who has late-stage lung cancer.
- Marcie Dimenstein: Licensed clinical social worker in Connecticut who provides psychotherapy to caregivers, and coordinates aging care resources for individuals through her service, Elder Pathways.
Doors open at 6:00 PM for mingling and light refreshments. The program will begin at 6:45 PM with a panel and Q&A session moderated by Connecticut Public’s Caregiving and Aging Reporter Michayla Savitt, followed by an opportunity to speak with fellow guests and visit sponsor resource tables.
Connecticut Public is community-focused and community-funded organization. We invite all attendees to make an additional donation; every dollar you give helps create the moments that bring you closer to the people, places, and things that matter in Connecticut. Give .
