Hope for the Best Plan for the Rest
This free Caregiver Connection Workshop is for anyone who has or is experiencing a caregiving role in any capacity. Above + Beyond Cancer recognizes the unique emotional, mental, and physical challenges that may unfold as a caregiver.
These three “workshops” are guided by a Caregiver Consultant and utilizes the resources from the book and podcast “Hope for the Best Plan for the Rest, “ by Dr. Sammy Winemaker and Dr. Hsien Seow. You may register for any or all of these caregiver-themed workshops that aim to connect you with other caregivers and offer a safe space for sharing and learning.
Session One: The Journey Begins-Together
Sunday 9/14 3:00-4:15 pm @ Pigott
We will discuss how life-changing illnesses can leave us feeling “in the dark” and how to move from feeling overwhelmed to more confident and prepared. Seeking information aligned with your illness not only provides knowledge but also instills hopefulness, reduces anxiety and considers what-ifs along the way. We learn how “zooming out” to shift perspective on what to expect while dealing with day-to-day issues helps with decision-making. While you can’t change the illness itself, knowing your style and leaning into your strengths can give you predictability about how you will walk this illness journey.

Session Two: Self-Advocacy
Sunday 10/12 3:00-4:15 pm @ Pigott
You’re an individual with preferences and values. We will discuss how to communicate with your healthcare team so they can guide your decisions and help you receive the best care that reflects your values. Healthcare is a team effort, and identifying your inner crew and their strengths is part of the journey. Learn how to connect your healthcare team with your crew so everyone knows what to expect, their roles, and how to manage what comes next.

Session Three: Staying in the Game
Sunday 11/9 3:00- 4:15 pm @ Pigott
We will discuss how to stay engaged with the roles of your crew and health care team and how to share your thoughts, not waiting to be asked. Learn ways to ask questions and get information. Assess your current situation, and ensure that your values are respected and heard. We’ll pull the topics together, answer questions, and celebrate your strengths.
