Joyce Rupp’s The Years of Ripening: Reflections on Aging in the Later Years is a sequel to her bestselling book of prayers and poems, Vessels of Love. This new book with over four dozen essays, a poem to open each chapter and a discussion guide, focuses on personal transformation, the wonder and goodness of our hidden self, and ways to claim ever more of the truest reality of our inner being.“As old age takes place, our physical being naturally weakens and wrinkles. At the same time, our non-physical being smooths out with a peaceful satisfaction… We let go of who we thought our self to be and grow in a transparency that reveals our seasoned-with-love self.”
Joyce Rupp, well known for her work as a writer, spiritual midwife, international retreat leader and conference speaker, has authored three dozen bestselling books on topics as diverse as grief, midlife spirituality, aging in late life, prayers for every occasion, reflections on nature, and a memoir of walking 450 miles across northern Spain. Her books have been published in nineteen countries. While semi-retired, Joyce continues to write and also serves as a companion for others as a spiritual guide. Joyce Rupp is a member of the Servite (Servants of Mary) community and was a volunteer for Hospice for fifteen years. She resides in West Des Moines, Iowa.
