About this Event
NYC has problems. You have 60 minutes and a pile of cardboard.
The subway doors close too fast.
The elevator takes forever.
Your apartment has approximately three square feet of storage.
And somehow, your mailbox is still full of flyers.
At Cardboard Congress, you and a team of fellow New Yorkers will get one tiny-but-annoying NYC problem — and 60 minutes to build a ridiculous solution using cardboard, tape, rubber bands, and whatever else is on the table.
No experience required. No presentation skills required. Just bring your imagination.
How it works
1. Pick your problem.
Your team randomly receives one of NYC's pettiest everyday problems.
2. Build for 60 minutes.
Work together to turn cardboard and simple materials into a physical prototype.
3. Enter the Town Hall.
Each team gets **90 seconds** to show the room what they built and explain how it works.
4. Vote with stickers.
Everyone gets a chance to vote for the idea they think NYC needs most.
5. The Ribbon Cutting.
All prototypes become one tiny cardboard city in the middle of the room. We'll officially open it with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, then everyone gets to wander through the miniature NYC and see what the other teams created.
There is no first place, second place, or judging panel. The point is to build something together, meet people, laugh at NYC's tiny frustrations, and leave with a ridiculous story.
And yes — everyone goes home with a Cardboard Congress Honorary Citizen Certificate.
