Can a nation of just 500,000 people actually stop Lionel Messi and Argentina?
Cape Verde made history at this World Cup — becoming
the smallest nation EVER to reach the knockout stage
in their debut tournament. They held Spain to 0-0,
drew with Uruguay and drew with Saudi Arabia. Three
draws, zero losses, and somehow they're still alive.
Now they face reigning World Cup champions Argentina
on July 3rd in Miami.
Their only plan? Defend deep, frustrate Messi and
his teammates, and hope goalkeeper Vozinha — who at
40 years old has been one of the best keepers at
this entire tournament — can keep them in it long
enough for penalties.
Argentina coach Scaloni has already warned his
players not to underestimate Cape Verde after
watching them frustrate Spain and Uruguay.
So the question is real — can Cape Verde pull off
the greatest upset in World Cup history?
