Cantabile and Rocky Mountain Chorale close their seasons with Craig Hella Johnson’s transformative fusion oratorio, Considering Matthew Shepard.
Composed in response to the tragic 1998 death of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man in Wyoming, this three-part work draws from a wide range of musical sources and texts—including blues, country, Gregorian chant, Matthew’s journals, Rumi poetry, and Michael Dennis Browne. Through this heartfelt musical journey, the work illuminates themes of understanding, community, and acceptance.
More than 100 singers join a 9-piece chamber orchestra and guest soloists for a performance that brings Cantabile’s All of Us season to its culmination.
Resources and information will be provided by our community partner, Rocky Mountain Equality.
