I am hosting CGC, CGCA, and CGCU Testing for anyone who would like to take the tests whether it be for titles or for general use. The Canine Good Citizen Family of tests is an AKC Title program created to proof the training of dogs and owners alike to ensure the safety and comfortablilty in all situations where dogs and people may be present. It is a requirement for some private programs for therapy dogs or service dog work, but you do not have to be a prospect of those in order to get your Canine Good Citizen certification. This is a way to show that you and your dog or puppy have put in the work to be the best you can be and are commited to ensuring the safety and comfortability of everyone around you when it comes to your dog.
Please visit https://www.akc.org/sports/akc-family-dog-program/
for additional information through AKC
If you have any questions, Please feel free to ask.
Everyone is welcome to attend and take the tests. If you do not have an AKC number, I can also assist you in signing your dog up for one. Reach out and I will be happy to get you started on the right path.
Prior to testing day, I am hosting a myriad of training dates to practice each section on the tests and would be happy to have any of you join us for the practice classes.
Call or text 304-563-0817 to find out more about those classes.
CGC - Canine Good Citizen - The first level of CGC required before the other tests can be completed. This will measure your basic obedience including your leash walking, sits, downs, stays, and recall.
CGCU - Urban Canine - This measures your and your dog's abilities to move politely through public spaces such as pet friendly shops and city streets. It will measure more distractions, more people, and more unpredictable situations.
CGCA - Community Canine - This is very similar to the CGCU test, but has different situations in which your dog will need to be focused on you and under control, when they may not want to. There is more community engagement and more distractions during this test.
The latter two tests require a Canine Good Citizen title be recorded, But all three tests can be completed on the same day. Meaning, If you pass the CGC and want to take the other 2 tests, you are welcome to do so.
Tests are $15 per test per dog. If your dog has been attending my beginner or advanced classes, the tests are included in your group class package.
**Memebers of the Huntington Kennel Club and/or Kanawha Obedience Training Club can take any test for $10 instead of $15.
A portion of all outside tests will be donated to the Huntington Kennel Club Obedience and Rally Trial that is to take place in November in Milton, WV.
