About this Event

Respectfully… can we talk about gracefully preparing?

Powered by Beetroot Consulting, with the live launch of this month's episode of The Root Podcast, recorded with Karlet Manning.

Preparation, loss, grief and death is something we rarely think of as being a graceful part of our lives and for many of us it is rarely talked about at all. In this Respectfully… conversation, Karlet Manning Founder of Gracefully Prepared talks about her journey to becoming a community focused, mental health aware Funeral Director, who specialises on working with the racially minoritised communities.

This discussion is not just about getting ready for the things we would rather not plan for, it is also a powerful moment to witness and share with a woman who is committed to building her organisation to support us before and within some of our hardest times and to re-imagine what what it means to prepare well, with care.

So, respectfully… can we talk about it?

This is a real conversation about gracefully preparing. It is also about:

  • Female led-businesses
  • Grief & Loss
  • Preparation and Planning
  • Mental Health
  • Community
  • Financial implications

The evening begins with a podcast discussion that opens up the theme and surfaces the key tensions, questions and lived realities. Lauren Gibson then open those ideas out with attendees, creating a wider conversation where people can reflect, respond, add texture, challenge carefully and build on what has been said.

If you want to watch the discussion, if you want a lecture, if you want to find out 'the answer', you will be disappointed. This room is being deliberately shaped for a different kind of conversation. Made for participation, for enough room, for honesty.

At the end of the evening, Karlet Manning will be invited to press the big blue button and launch this month's episode of The Root Podcast live, together, in real time. Our room will choose to move the conversation out of the margins and into public space.

For anyone who plans for other people, anyone who avoids planning, and anyone who has learned the cost of leaving it late.

Agenda

🕑: 05:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Arrival, picky bits

Info: Guests can arrive, grab picky bits, herbal tea or alcohol-free cocktails, and settle into the space. This opening half hour gives people time to land, connect, decompress if needed, and get a feel for the room before the main conversation begins.

🕑: 06:00 PM - 07:00 PM
Core event: gracefully preparing
Host: Lauren Gibson

Info: The main event opens with a short introduction to The Root Podcast and why Beetroot makes long-form conversations that give more room to nuance, lived experience and the things that get flattened elsewhere. We then move into this month's theme: Respectfully… can we talk about being Gracefully prepared? This section includes the episode trailer, the conversation with Karlet Manning, and a hosted discussion with the room exploring the realities behind the theme: preparation and care, planning for what we avoid, doing it in good time, the cost of leaving it late, preparing well for other people. This is a hosted conversation rather than a panel.

🕑: 07:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Live podcast launch and close
Host: Lauren Gibson

Info: There will be some time to chat to others in the room, before the evening ends with the launch moment. Karlet Manning will press the big blue button, launching this month's episode of The Root Podcast live in real time with everyone in the room.
