Camp Vini Presents: Sicily — The Scorsese Cut
Six films. Six wines. One island with a thousand stories.
Lights down. Glasses up.
Howdy, campers! Welcome to the movies.
Well, it's finally happened. Counselor Alex has agreed to indulge the wild machinations of Counselor Justin, and we're taking Camp Vini to the silver screen. Will the connections between wine and cinema be brilliant? Occasionally tenuous? Delightfully unexpected? We're counting on a little of all three.
That's right. We're doing Scorsese.
For our latest installment, we're trading the traditional wine map for a movie screen and asking a perfectly reasonable question: What happens when you pair six Martin Scorsese films with six Sicilian wines?
Think of it as a film retrospective with a very enthusiastic beverage program.
After all, wine has never been just about what's in the glass around here. It's about history, art, culture, the people who make it, and the stories that bring us together.
With Sicilian roots woven through his family's history—and the stories, traditions, and characters that helped shape his imagination—Scorsese gives us the perfect excuse to turn the silver screen into a window onto Sicily: an island of volcanic vineyards, ancient traditions, larger-than-life personalities, and stories that refuse to be forgotten.
We're pairing these films with wines not because they appear in the movies (although wouldn't that be convenient?), but because each bottle has a story worth telling.
Expect unlikely leading characters, rebellious winemakers, family legacies, volcanic landscapes, and a few plot twists along the way.
We'll travel from the slopes of Mount Etna to Sicily's sun-drenched countryside, exploring indigenous grapes, centuries of winemaking history, and the people redefining what Sicilian wine can be. Along the way, we'll discover the unexpected connections between what's happening on screen and what's happening in our glasses.
There will be history. There will be cinema. There will almost certainly be a few questionable leaps of creative interpretation. But most importantly, there will be good wine and good company.
You don't need to be a film buff. You don't need to know a thing about Sicilian wine. You just need a little curiosity and an appetite for a good story.
No spoilers. Just good pours.
