This October, we’ll be getting hands on with calligraphy, drawing and mark making in a workshop led by Michael Walsh.Michael will take calligraphy back to its basic building blocks, demonstrating techniques using double and triple pencils to explore the construction of letterforms, rhythm, line and movement. From these simple foundations, the session will open into something much more experimental, with opportunities to introduce colour and develop the techniques in individual ways.
This is very much a practical workshop, so members will be working alongside Michael and trying the techniques for themselves as the evening progresses.
We’re also planning to use an overhead camera during the demonstrations, making it easier for everyone in the room to see Michael’s process closely and follow each stage.
No need to arrive with finished ideas. Come ready to draw, experiment and discover what can happen when lettering becomes another form of image making.
