Join Mamahuhu and Books Inc. for our next Chinese-American Literature Club read: Katie Yee’s Maggie; or, A Man and a Woman Walk Into a Bar — featuring a special virtual author Q&A with Katie Yee.
After learning that her husband is having an affair, a Chinese American woman receives another shock: a breast cancer diagnosis. Naming her tumor after the other woman, she navigates heartbreak, illness, motherhood, and family history with an unexpectedly funny, sharp-eyed approach to grief and starting over.
We’ll start the evening with a virtual visit from Katie Yee, who’ll talk about the book and answer questions from the club. Afterward, we’ll break into smaller groups for discussion over dinner at Mamahuhu.
If you’re new, welcome! Here’s how it works: Reserve a spot, pick up your book at Books Inc. Palo Alto, read at your own pace, then meet us at Mamahuhu for dinner and discussion.
New this round: Each book has its own limited registration period to make pickup a little simpler and give everyone plenty of time to read. For this club, registration closes September 22, and books will be available for pickup at Books Inc. beginning September 23.
The first 25 readers to reserve a spot will receive a complimentary copy of the book, courtesy of Mamahuhu and Books Inc. Once those copies are claimed, you’re still welcome to register and join us with your own copy.
