About this Event
Calavera Cyanotype Workshop
Why Cyanotype?
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes developed. It is a versatile method of developing solar and UV light photographic prints and can be applied to a variety of surfaces, like paper, wood, fabric, glass, and pottery. The world of cyanotypes is vast and offers so much room to play and explore. You can create a photographic print using any object, plant, or negative transparency.
What happens in this workshop?
Artist, educator, and momma, Virginia (), will guide you through the entire process of creating a cyanotype photogram.
Explore the chemistry behind cyanotype and watch the sun work its magic in real time as the solar reactive solution darkens into a rich cyan blue after being rinsed in water. You will end up with an ethereal floral and botanical calavera sun print. Here comes a bonus... are you ready?! While your calavera sun print is drying, you will get to create a smaller talavera dove or sacred heart sun print (see pictures featured.) Once your calavera sun print is dry, you will glue pressed flowers around your calavera to give it a vibrant pop of color.
