Uniquely shaped stones can inspire beautiful jewelry designs, but their irregular forms often call for a setting that works with the stone instead of forcing it into a standard shape. In our Caged Prong Geodes class, you’ll learn a simple and versatile technique for capturing geodes and other unusually shaped stones. The caged-prong approach allows the natural character of the stone to remain central to the design while creating a setting around its individual form.
This intermediate-level class is designed for makers ready to build on their jewelry-making experience while exploring a different approach to stone setting.
Your instructor, Kim St. Jean, is Tucson Jewelry School’s resident artist and has more than 25 years of jewelry-making teaching experience. She’ll guide you through the process of creating a caged-prong setting for a uniquely shaped stone or geode.
