Across lands once woven into the fabric of the empire, Ottoman coffee is still savoured in familiar cups. Known by different names, it nonetheless carries the traces of a shared past. Like the rich aroma of coffee that travels beyond borders, songs and instrumental pieces from the Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Arabic, Ladino and Bosnian traditions bring together the voices, stories and memories of cultures long intertwined across three continents.
Featuring original arrangements and compositions by kanun player and composer Didem Başar, this performance brings together accomplished musicians in a vibrant dialogue of melody, rhythm and improvisation.
This concert invites us to gather around this symbolic cup, where melodies become a common language and history is tasted one song at a time.
