About this Event

Join me at Thrive for an evening of cacao, drumming, movement, song and ritual as we approach the Fall Equinox and honor Quilla Raymi, an Andean seasonal celebration associated with the moon, fertility, the feminine, the land and the transition into a new agricultural cycle.

I was born in Ecuador, and bringing Andean ways of understanding reciprocity, land, ancestry and cyclical time into my work is deeply important to me. I offer this gathering not as a reconstruction of an Indigenous ceremony, but from my own relationship to the Andes and with respect for the living traditions from which Quilla Raymi comes.

THE MENO-POSSE GATHERS

Perimenopause and menopause are also thresholds.

Our bodies change. Hormones shift. Sleep changes. Desire can change. Our relationship to motherhood, partnership, work, creativity and our own aging may begin asking different things of us.

And too often, women are expected to navigate all of this privately.

The Meno-Posse is my answer to that.

Part friendship circle. Part information network. Part witness. Part troublemaking committee.

A place where we can learn about our changing bodies, but also gather around experiences that cannot be reduced to symptoms and lab values.

On September 26, that means cacao and the drum.

WHY THE DRUM?

Rhythm has always been one of the ways human beings gather.

The drum gives us something beautifully elemental: a pulse we can hear and feel in the body. In many Indigenous cultures, drumming, song and movement are woven into communal and ceremonial life—not simply as performance, but as ways of participating, communicating and remembering together.

For this circle, the drum becomes an invitation into rhythm, voice and truth.

We will begin with cacao and an introduction to Quilla Raymi and the Fall Equinox. From there we will work with breath, rhythm, drumming, voice and movement.

You do not need to know how to drum.

You do not need to know how to sing.

You definitely do not need to know how to dance.

You only need to be willing to participate.

We will make sound together. We will move. We will listen. We will have space for reflection and conversation. And we will mark this seasonal threshold in community rather than simply watching another equinox pass on the calendar.

BRING YOUR MENO-POSSE

Come alone and meet us here—or bring the women you want beside you for this chapter.

Bring the friend who understands the 3 a.m. text.

The friend learning about hormones alongside you.

The friend entering perimenopause.

The friend well beyond menopause who has some stories to tell.

The friend who wants to drum.

The friend who insists she absolutely does not want to drum. Bring her too.

This is a gathering for women and women-identified bodies across the spectrum of midlife and beyond. You do not need to be experiencing symptoms, taking hormones, practicing Ayurveda, or know anything about Andean traditions to participate.

Come curious.

Come comfortable.

Come ready to make some noise.
