Butch Tribute er röð sviðslistaviðburða sem byggir á sviðslistarannsókn á hinsegin, kvenkyns karlmennsku, eftir norsku danshöfundana og dansarana Marte Reithaug Sterud og Ann-Christin Kongsness. Við sækjum okkur innblástur í hugtakið butch, sem notað er í hinsegin samfélaginu yfir karlmannlegar konur, hóp sem er gjarnan jaðarsettur og hunsaður. Í þremur stuttum dansverkum viljum við varpa upp fjölbreyttari mynd af butch konum, með því að sýna ólíkar birtingarmyndir hinsegin, kvenkyns karlmennsku.
Í verkinu Flirt gerum við sviðið að okkar eigin, við erum virkar, daðrandi, í leit að tengslum og þrífumst á athygli og viðbrögðum áhorfendanna. Við tökum okkur vald til þess að vera augnaráðið en ekki aðeins viðfangið. Grjóthart pönkið í verkinu Roses varð til sem butch svar við dansverki Önnu Teresu De Keersmaeker frá 1983, Rosas danst Rosas, sem sameinar kvenlega kyntjáningu og mínímalíska danshefð. Verkið Flannel Dream er náinn dúett tveggja butch kvenna í landslagi sem samanstendur af flónelsskyrtum. Butch sambönd fá loksins þá ástarsögu sem þau eiga skilið.
Sterud/Kongsness náðu saman sökum persónulegs og fræðilegs áhuga þeirra á sambandi danslistar og líkama, kyngervis og leiks. Árið 2018 stóðu þær fyrir Queer Dance Art / Skeiv dansekunst, fundaröð á Oslo Pride þar sem þátt tóku sextán danslistamanneskjur sem vinna á virkan hátt með spurningar um kyntjáningu og kynhneigð. Árið 2021 frumsýndu þær verkaröðina Butch Tribute sem samanstendur af dansverkunum Flirt, Roses og Flannel Dream, og sýningu í fullri lengd, A Butch is a Butch is a Butch is a Butch. Verk þeirra hafa verið sýnd víða í Noregi og Svíþjóð.

Butch Tribute is a performance series based on a physical and performative exploration of queer, female masculinity, with and by Norwegian choreographers and performers Marte Reithaug Sterud and Ann-Christin Kongsness.We are inspired by butch - a term used to describe masculine women in the queer community, a group who are often marginalized and ignored. Through three smaller dance performances, we want to diversify the representation of butches, by demonstrating different representations of queer, female masculinity.
In the performance Flirt, we take full ownership of the stage, we are active, flirtatious, contact seeking, and thrive on attention and response from the audience. It is about insisting on being the gaze and not only the eye catcher. The hard hitting punk statement in the performance Roses, is inspired by making a butch version of the choreography Rosas danst Rosas (1983) by Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker, a piece that unites a feminine gender expression with the minimalistic dance tradition. The performance Flannel Dream is an intimate duet between two butches, set in a landscape of flannel shirts. Butch-on-butch relationships finally get the epic lovestory they deserve.
Sterud/Kongsness connects through their personal and theoretical interest in the relationship between dance and the body, gender and performativity. In 2018, they organized Queer Dance Art / Skeiv dansekunst - a conversation series during Oslo Pride, with contributions from sixteen dance artists who actively take a stand on questions around gender expression and sexuality. In 2021, they premiered the ongoing performance series Butch Tribute, which consist of the three dance performances Flirt, Roses and Flannel Dream, and the full length performance A Butch is a Butch is a Butch is a Butch. Their work has toured throughout Norway and Sweden.
