A client expects something you never intended to offer. You thought you had explained your approach. Now you’re deciding whether to push back, make an exception or do extra work.
How do you have that conversation clearly—and keep the relationship constructive?
This practical, 90-minute workshop helps freelancers set clearer expectations, spot assumptions and respond to extra requests.
Together, we’ll practise how to:
- Explain your offer: what’s included, how you work and what you need from the client.
- Check understanding: ask questions that reveal different expectations before they become a problem.
- Handle extra requests: acknowledge the client’s needs, explain the implications and agree a workable next step.
- Confirm in writing: turn the conversation into a clear, useful follow-up.
You’ll work in pairs with prepared scenarios, including one where the freelancer’s own wording caused the confusion. You’ll receive feedback and leave with a completed expectations worksheet, practical phrases and a follow-up message you can adapt for your business.
We’ll finish with guided networking, giving you time to meet other freelancers and exchange experiences.
Who is it for?
Freelance educators, coaches, consultants, translators and other independent professionals who work directly with clients. No preparation is needed, and you won’t be asked to share private client details.

June Antson is an educator, author and workshop facilitator. She draws on her teaching experience—including her own lessons in what happens when you assume a client understands how you work.
