In 1999, Megan Bloomfield (Natasha Lyonne) seems to have it all: she's a cheerleader, dates the star football player and comes from a picture-perfect suburban family. She is more than stunned when her parents and friends decide she must be a lesbian, sending her to a conversion therapy camp. There, Megan begins to discover who she really is — and who she wants to be with.
Director Jamie Babbit, who set out to make a gay ‘Clueless’, takes a deeply serious subject and skewers it, turning gender stereotyping and conversion therapy into sharp satire with no holds barred. The film has become a beloved queer cult classic, celebrated for its bold visual style, biting humour, and life affirming vision of self-acceptance, in what is ultimately a heartfelt coming-of-age romance.
