About this Event
Join us for a screening of The People's Emergency Briefing, a short film presented by Chris Packham that brings together leading UK experts to set out the latest evidence on the climate and nature crises. The film explores what these changes mean for food, health, economic stability and everyday life in the UK.
The National Emergency Briefing (NEB) was commissioned in response to a simple but profound democratic principle: people should be trusted with the truth about major risks that affect their lives.We will be joined by Professor Hayley Fowler, Professor of Climate Change Impacts at Newcastle University, who was one of ten leading UK experts who briefed an audience of more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media in Westminster in November 2025.
We will also be joined by a business leader for a discussion with the audience on the opportunities and tensions between climate action and economic growth.Whether you are already engaged with these issues or simply curious to learn more, we invite you to watch the film, hear the discussion and draw your own conclusions about the challenges and opportunities ahead.
This event is delivered in partnership by Newcastle University's three National Innovation Centres: the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD), the National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE), and the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), bringing together expertise from across the University to explore some of society's most pressing challenges.
The event is supported through the Internet of Caring Things® (IoCT™) programme, which is part-funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Newcastle University and delivered in partnership with the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).
