Build a Stronger Business Model: Practical Business Model Canvas Workshop
About this Event

Do you have a business idea, an early-stage venture or an existing business model that needs greater clarity?

This practical Business Model Canvas clinic will help you explore, develop and refine how your business creates, delivers and captures value.

Using the Business Model Canvas, you will work through the connected building blocks of a business model. These include your customers, value proposition, routes to market, key business activities, resources, partners, income and costs.

Rather than producing a lengthy business plan, you will use a simple visual framework to bring the main elements of your business together on one page. Guided activities and practical prompts will help you challenge assumptions, identify gaps and focus on the areas that need further research or development.

The session is suitable for aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups, freelancers, social enterprises and small business owners. You do not need to have a completed business plan or previous experience of using the Business Model Canvas.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created an initial Business Model Canvas and identified practical next steps for testing and strengthening your business model.

The proposed clinic is designed to help participants clarify their value proposition, identify target customers, understand the relationships between different parts of the business and develop a completed canvas that can support further planning, funding applications and strategic decisions.

What you will learn

During the workshop, you will explore:

  • who your most important customers or users are
  • the problems, needs or opportunities your business addresses
  • how to create a clear and compelling value proposition
  • how customers will discover, access and engage with your offer
  • the relationships you need to build with customers
  • how your business could generate income or other forms of value
  • the activities, resources and partnerships required to deliver your offer
  • the principal costs associated with operating your business
  • which assumptions need to be tested before investing further time or money

What you will take away

By the end of the clinic, you will have:

  • an initial Business Model Canvas for your idea or business
  • a clearer description of your target customers
  • a more focused value proposition
  • a visual overview of how the different parts of your business connect
  • a list of assumptions requiring further evidence or customer validation
  • priority actions for refining and testing your model
  • information about relevant business, innovation, intellectual property and research support

These outputs align with the clinic proposal, which identifies a completed canvas, improved market-positioning clarity, identification of gaps and assumptions, and actionable next steps as the main participant outcomes.

Who should attend?

This workshop is suitable for:

  • people exploring a new business or social enterprise idea
  • early-stage entrepreneurs and start-ups
  • freelancers and self-employed professionals
  • small business owners reviewing or changing their business model
  • organisations developing a new product, service or customer offer
