Business Financial Foundations is an interactive educational workshop designed to help aspiring, startup, and early-stage small business owners better understand the financial side of starting, running, and growing a business.

Presented by the NWA Accounting & Bookkeeping Collective, this workshop brings together bookkeepers, accountants, CPAs, enrolled agents, financial planners, and other local professionals with one shared goal: helping business owners build stronger financial foundations through practical education and collaboration.

Instead of simply talking about financial concepts, we're going to build a fictional business together.

We'll start at $0, make our first sales, grow to $100,000 in revenue, and follow the money along the way.

Then we'll tackle the question every business owner eventually asks:

“My business made $100,000...so how much of that is actually mine?”

The answer? We don't know yet!

Together, our speakers will help follow that $100,000 through:

• Where Did the Money Go? — Revenue, expenses, bookkeeping, profit, cash flow, and understanding your financial statements.
• What Does the Profit Mean for Taxes? — Tax reserves, deductions, estimated taxes, planning, and avoiding unexpected tax bills.
• How Do I Actually Pay Myself? — Owner draws, distributions, payroll, available cash, and understanding what the business can actually afford.
• What Happens as My Business Grows? — Financial and tax considerations, owner compensation, compliance, cash reserves, and common growth pitfalls.
• Don't Forget the Owner Behind the Business — Thinking beyond the business bank account and considering your personal financial future.

We'll bring our financial professionals together for an interactive $100K Panel and let the audience help decide what our fictional business should do next.

Should we pay the owner? Reserve for taxes? Build cash reserves? Pay down debt? Hire? Buy equipment? Reinvest? Keep growing? Start building personal wealth?

You'll hear how different financial professionals approach the same business decision from different perspectives—because building a successful business takes more than one piece of the financial puzzle.
