About this Event
With Robert Burns’ birthday falling on a Monday, we’re celebrating across two nights in January 2027, each with its own character.
Saturday 23 January: Burns Night with a Celtic Twist
Our Brewery Market style Bard Night returns! As in previous years, expect an evening of beers, meads, stories, poetry and a traditional haggis supper as we celebrate Scotland’s best-loved poet.
- Meads and Scottish Ales: Explore a tasting of meads and Scottish ales, including the fabled Heather Ale, with stories connecting our drinks to poetry, folklore and Scotland.
- The Tale of Heather Ale: Discover the legends surrounding this celebrated Scottish brew and its mysterious origins.
- Celtic Connections: Hear tales of mead, poetry, rebellions and alliances, exploring the drink’s place in Scotland’s cultural history.
- A Tale of Two Whiskies: Yes, there will be two Scottish whiskies to try. We’ll say no more until the night!
- Traditional Haggis Supper: Tuck into haggis with bard-inspired accompaniments. A vegetarian option is available, so please select the VEGGIE option at checkout.
- Poetry Readings: Enjoy verses from Robert Burns and beyond. Bring a poem to share and join in the spirit of the evening!
Book your place soon, and bring a poem!
Monday 25 January: Candlelit Poetry & Spoken Word
On Burns’ birthday itself, join us for an intimate evening of candlelit poetry readings and a spoken word open mic, celebrating the power of words in the warm surroundings of Brewery Market.
Bring your own writing, share a favourite poem, or simply settle in with a drink and listen. Everyone who reads a poem receives a free third of a pint, and we’ll be circulating complimentary Scottish snacks and nibbles throughout the evening.
Open from 5pm · Readings and open mic from 7–9pm
To book your reading or spoken word slot, please email [email protected]. Spaces are very limited, so get in touch early.
