About this Event

CIOB Merseyside & Cheshire and CIBSE Merseyside & North Wales are pleased to host a joint CPD session exploring the latest developments, challenges and practical implications of the Building Safety Act as we move into 2026.

This session will be led by Nasar Ishfaq of R5 Consultants, a specialist in regulatory compliance, Gateway processes, and competence under the Building Safety Act. The event is designed to directly support CIOB and CIBSE members in meeting their mandatory annual Building Safety CPD requirements.

Whether you're a designer, engineer, project manager, contractor, or building operator, this session will help you understand what good practice looks like today — and what’s coming next.

What the Session Will Cover

Nasar will deliver a structured but practical overview of the Act and its current application across the built environment, including:

1. The Building Safety Act: Where We Are Now

A clear explanation of the Act, its purpose, and how it continues to reshape responsibilities across the sector.

2. Dutyholder Roles & Competence Expectations

What the competency requirements now look like for clients, designers, contractors and principal roles — and how to demonstrate compliance.

3. The Golden Thread & Information Management

How to maintain, manage and evidence the Golden Thread throughout the building lifecycle, with lessons from early industry adoption.

4. Regulatory Oversight & Enforcement

What the Building Safety Regulator is focusing on, current enforcement trends, and what organisations should prepare for.

5. Practical Impacts for Built-Environment Professionals

Real‑world implications for design, engineering, construction and building management, including good practice examples.

6. Insights on Gateway Approvals

  • How the industry currently perceives Gateway 1, 2 and 3
  • Common challenges and bottlenecks
  • Practical hints and tips for navigating the process successfully

Attendees will leave with actionable insights to apply directly in their roles.

Who Should Attend

This event is ideal for:

  • CIOB and CIBSE members completing mandatory annual CPD
  • LJMU students studying subjects within the built environment
  • Designers, engineers, and senior professionals working on higher-risk buildings
  • Anyone involved in regulatory compliance, Gateway submissions, or building safety management
  • Built-environment professionals wanting a clear, up‑to‑date understanding of the Act’s requirements
  • Free to CIOB & CIBSE members, as well as LJMU students (signed up by lecturers)
  • £25 to non CIOB or CIBSE members

CPD Benefits

This session supports:

  • CIOB – minimum annual CPD hours on the Building Safety Act
  • CIBSE – annual semi-structured CPD requirement relating to Building Safety and competence
  • LJMU Students – a chance to learn about a real work issue within our industry as well as an opportunity to network with working proffessionals
