About this Event
For three years, an interdisciplinary UVA team has worked with community members in Southwest Virginia to explore a new approach to renewable energy development, one that puts community priorities, economic opportunity, and resilience at the center.
Join members of the Appalachian Renewable Energy & Resilience Climate Collaborative for a conversation about what they learned along the way. Panelists will reflect on the realities of community-led energy planning, what they discovered about the opportunities and challenges facing Appalachian communities, and how their research can inform renewable energy development in the region and beyond.
The discussion will explore a central question: Can a broader approach to community resilience help communities shape renewable energy projects to deliver greater local benefits? The panel will also look ahead, sharing the tools, insights and lessons from the project that could help other communities navigate the intersection of clean energy, economic development and resilience.
The presentation will be followed by a celebratory reception.
