Building Beats from Scratch: Sampling with Cut Chemist 🎧
Thursday, December 3 | 6:00-7:30 pm | Living Room at the Music District
How do you turn a forgotten record into a brand-new sound? Get a behind-the-scenes look at the art of sampling with legendary DJ, producer, and turntablist Cut Chemist, a founding member of influential hip-hop group Jurassic 5 and Latin funk band Ozomatli. Known for his genre-bending productions, innovative live sets, and collaborations with DJ Shadow, Cut has spent decades pushing the boundaries of beatmaking and transforming unexpected musical finds into something entirely new.
In this one-night-only session, dive into the creative process behind sampling, crate digging, and beat construction. Through real-time examples, stories, and techniques, Cut will break down how he finds inspiration in unexpected places, flips existing sounds, and makes something entirely his own.
Whether you're a producer looking to expand your creative toolkit, a DJ curious about the art of digging for records, or an artist exploring new approaches to songwriting, this is a chance to learn from one of the greats and check out his creative process in action.
