About this Event
Nichos are traditional three-dimensional shadow boxes or miniature shrines popular in Latin American folk art, especially in Mexico. Join us for a DIY Woodworking Workshop where you’ll build your very own nichos for your ofrendas on Dia de Los Muertos.
Create your own vibrant, three-dimensional shadow box that functions as portable shrine, altar, or memorial diorama. Perfect for Dia de los Muertos! Learn to build a small, recessed wooden box and add features of your choosing such as hinged doors, arched tops, or panels like a tiny theatre. Decorate using found objects such as beads, sequins, glitter, paper flowers, and more!
Gain confidence using essential tools like the band saw, and drill/driver to cut, shape, and assemble your project. You’ll practice safe techniques in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required.
