Buffel Beats is a fun, creative Landcare project led by Doug McDougall at Olive Pink Botanic Garden. It offers a unique way to help care for Country while dancing, laughing, and enjoying upbeat music. The project focuses on hands-on conservation along the banks of the Todd River, next to Olive Pink, where efforts are underway to reduce buffel grass and protect the majestic River Red Gums.
By removing buffel grass, the site is being given space to recover, and it’s already showing great results, with plenty of new native seedlings emerging in the buffel-free areas. It’s rewarding work that makes a real difference, all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
No experience is needed — just bring covered shoes, a hat, and water.
Meet at the Lhere Mparntwe (Todd River), along the bicycle trail next to Olive Pink Botanic Garden (on the Garden side of the river). Exact location will be posted here soon. Call 0421 898 329 if you can’t find us.
Buffel Beats is open to everyone, and you might even pick up a few hula-hooping skills from Doug along the way. Come along, get moving, meet new people, and help restore this special riverside environment.
Buffel beats runs every month on the second Saturday. Winter 9-10am, summer 8-9am.
