About this Event

Buddy Mondlock has earned the admiration of some of music’s most respected voices—and The White Lilac offers the chance to hear those songs from the person who wrote them.

With a gentle voice, expressive acoustic guitar, and a storyteller’s eye for the surprising details of everyday life, Buddy draws listeners close. His songs find humor, tenderness, and wonder in unexpected places. Expect thoughtful folk and Americana, stories behind the songs, and moments that stay with you long after the last chord.

Raised in Park Forest, Illinois, Buddy developed his craft in Chicago’s legendary folk scene, even opening for Steve Goodman at the Earl of Old Town when he was just 21. His path to Nashville began when Guy Clark heard him singing beneath a tree at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Buddy went on to win Kerrville’s New Folk competition in 1987, followed by a 1996 Kerrville Music Award for Song of the Year for “The Kid.”

His songwriting has since traveled around the world. Nanci Griffith recorded “Comin’ Down in the Rain” on her Grammy-winning album Other Voices, Other Rooms. Garth Brooks recorded their co-written “Every Now and Then” on The Chase. And “The Kid,” recorded by David Wilcox and Peter, Paul and Mary, brought Buddy to the stage alongside the beloved folk trio for their PBS Great Performances special.

His creative partnerships also include Everything Waits to Be Noticed, an album written and recorded with Art Garfunkel and Maia Sharp. His latest album, Filament, produced by Brad Jones, expands his musical palette while keeping his vivid storytelling at its center. It includes “The Dark,” co-written with Guy Clark.

In recent years, Buddy has also helped military veterans turn their experiences into songs through Music Therapy of the Rockies—work that brings another deeply human dimension to his performances.

“Buddy Mondlock writes beautiful songs and plays the kind of guitar they deserve. He’s a fine person and a fine artist.” — Townes Van Zandt
