About this Event
Join us for a cozy brunch and art morning - a mix of conversation, and discovery.
We’ll start the day together with a relaxed brunch nearby, followed by a visit to one of the season’s most anticipated exhibitions: The Scharf Collection at the Alte Nationalgalerie, where French masters meet contemporary abstraction.
The exhibition brings together around 150 works - from Goya and French Realism to Impressionism and Cubism, leading up to contemporary painting. Expect masterpieces by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Bonnard, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse, Picasso, Sam Francis, Daniel Richter, and Katharina Grosse.
A special highlight: a rare selection from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s complete graphic oeuvre, offering a glimpse into Parisian nightlife and the birth of modern poster art.
🖼️ About the Exhibition
The Scharf Collection is a private collection passed through four generations, continues the legacy of Berlin collector Otto Gerstenberg, whose holdings once spanned from Goya to Degas and Lautrec.
Despite wartime losses, his daughter Margarethe Scharf saved much of the collection and passed it on. Later, Walther and Eve Scharf, together with their son René, expanded its French focus with works by Monet, Cézanne, Bonnard, Matisse, and Picasso.
Today, René and Christiane Scharf carry this tradition forward with contemporary artists like Sam Francis, Daniel Richter, and Katharina Grosse - bridging past and present through color and form.
