Most one-on-ones are just status meetings with a nicer name. Deadlines, project updates, client fires, what's due Friday. Those conversations matter, but they're not the ones that grow people. When the only time you sit down with an employee is to check on work, you lose your best chance to build alignment, address performance early, and find out what your people actually need from you.
This workshop teaches a simple three-part format for employee one-on-ones built around Alignment, Performance, and Support. You'll learn what belongs in each area, what stays out, and how to introduce the new format to your team without it feeling like a performance review in disguise. We'll cover how to set a cadence that fits the role, the seniority, and the person, so you're not running the same meeting with a 15-year veteran and a brand-new hire.
We'll also get practical about the part most managers dread: what to say. You'll leave with a bank of questions that keep these meetings fresh instead of repetitive, a clear sense of when to hand the agenda over to your employee, and a short prep routine so you walk in ready to coach rather than winging it in the hallway on your way to the room.
