The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives’ Brown Bag Lunch Series welcomes author Janet L. Finn to present about her book, Pie in the Sky, that was published this September.Pie in the Sky is a woman-centered coming-of-age story cast against a backdrop of political upheaval. Framed around real-life events, from miners’ strikes in Butte, Montana to land occupations in Santiago, the novel traces the intertwining stories of two young women from childhood to the moment when their worlds collide in 1970’s Chile. There they encounter friendship, love, and the terror of state violence.
Janet is an author, educator, and lifelong social justice advocate whose work delves into how people are affected by systems of power, inequality, and transformation. Growing up in gritty and resilient Butte, Montana, helped mold her lifelong curiosity about the lives we are all born into, the communities we build, and the outside forces that influence our lives and communities.
The Brown Bag Lunch Series will continue at noon on Wednesday, November 18th, 2026, and will last about an hour. The conversation will be held in the auditorium at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives, located at 17 W. Quartz Street. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.
Brown Bag Lunches are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Upcoming lectures will focus on topics of local interest. For more information, contact the Archives at (406)782-3280.
