This film documents the events leading to the 2025 Omaha Public Power District Board decision on the future of the North Omaha coal plant.
About this Event

The Omaha Public Power District has the largest customer base in Nebraska, a state that is 100% public power. The utility management has repeatedly promised to the OPPD Board and to the public that they will retire an aging coal plant located in a low-income community of color--a community that has had more than its share of environmental problems. However, OPPD has reneged on this promise in the past.

As the utility prepares to complete the final conversion of the coal burning units to natural gas, the State of Nebraska intervenes with a lawsuit. In addition, there are rumors that the OPPD wants to keep the coal units open in order to court another data center-something that the Nebraska governor has been touting. Will the utility buckle under political pressure or keep its promise to the people?
