Find your center, release your creativity, and craft a lasting piece of art from the earth. Join us at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) for a unique, two-part workshop designed to ground your mind and ignite your creative spirit. This immersive experience combines the healing power of mindfulness with the tactile joy of pottery, giving you the time to fully create, refine, and glaze your own custom incense tray holder over two peaceful Sunday mornings. Perfectly beginner-friendly, this workshop includes all necessary materials, clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings. All you need to bring is an open mind and comfortable clothes.Students have two date options for this workshop:
Sunday Morning Option: Sunday, Oct. 4 & Sunday, Oct. 18 from 9 AM – 12 PM
Tuesday Evening Option: Tuesday, Oct. 6 & Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 6 – 9: PM
On the first day of either session, we will start by centering our minds and bodies with Reiki practitioner and life coach Michele Belson, who will lead a soothing breathwork and grounding mindfulness exercise. Drawing from her deep experience in emotional healing and personal growth, Michele creates a safe, peaceful space to help you shake off the noise of the outside world, reconnect with yourself, and set a positive intention for the creative process ahead. With a calm mind and open heart, you will then transition into the LACA pottery studio to meet talented ceramic artist and volunteer kiln manager Wendy Laraway. Using a raw slab of clay, Wendy will guide you through the essential tips and techniques to hand-build your incense tray holder. While she provides expert structural guidance, you maintain full creative freedom to shape, texture, and style your piece to match your personal aesthetic.
We return to the studio two weeks later to bring your creation to life with color. We will begin the morning once again with Michele, who will lead a beautiful breathwork experience to bring you back into a state of mindful awareness and focused calm. Once centered, you will reconnect with Wendy in the pottery studio to glaze your bisque-fired incense holder. Wendy will share various glazing techniques and help you select the perfect colors to finish your piece before it goes into the kiln for its final firing. You will leave this two-part series not only with a grounded spirit and new creative skills, but also with a beautiful, handmade incense holder to bring a touch of daily mindfulness into your own home.
Registration is $100 for LACA members and $115 for non-members. Register online at ludingtonartscenter.org or call 231-845-2787.
