BREATH 101A Beginner’s Guide to the Breath You Carry Everywhere
Wednesday, October 14 | 6:30 PM
BLOOM Mind.Body • Gambrills
You’ve been breathing your entire life. But how often have you actually paid attention to how you breathe?
Your breath is one of the few things your body does automatically that you can also consciously change. It responds when you’re excited, nervous, focused, rushing, resting, laughing or crying, and we can also learn how to work with it intentionally.
That’s what this evening is about.
Breath 101 is an approachable, interactive introduction to breathwork for anyone curious about the breath, how it can influence the way we feel, and simple ways we can use it in everyday life.
No experience. No complicated techniques to master. And you definitely don’t need to be “good” at meditation.
We’re going to get curious together. We’ll explore what your everyday breathing patterns can tell you, notice where your breath naturally moves in your body, and play with changing things like the pace, depth and length of the inhale and exhale.
You’ll have an opportunity to experience several different breathing techniques and actually notice the difference for yourself.
What happens when we lengthen the exhale?
What changes when we breathe more slowly?
What does diaphragmatic breathing actually feel like?
And why might one type of breath feel supportive when you want to settle while another can help you feel more awake, focused or energized?
We’ll also do a simple breath check-in, not as a test or something to “pass,” but as another way to become curious about your own relationship with your breath.
Because there really isn’t one perfect way to breathe all day long.
The beautiful part is learning that different breaths can become different tools.
And then we’ll experience it.
Toward the end of our time together, you’ll get a short introduction to 9D Breathwork.
You’ll put on the headphones, settle onto your mat, and experience a small taste of the immersive sound, guided breath and multidimensional elements that make a 9D journey so different from practicing a breathing technique on its own.
It’s simply an opportunity to experience another side of breathwork and discover what it feels like in your own body.
More than a class...
My hope is that you leave understanding your breath a little differently than when you walked in.
You’ll take home simple tools and breathing practices you can return to in real life, before a stressful conversation, when your mind feels busy, when you need to ground, when you want more energy, or simply when you want to reconnect with yourself.
You’ll also receive a little gift from me to take home as a reminder of our evening together.
Afterward, you’re welcome to linger for a cup of warm tea or cider, ask questions, connect, or simply enjoy the space before heading home.
Because your breath doesn’t require special equipment. You don’t have to wait until you have an hour. And you don’t have to completely change your life to begin working with it.
It is already with you.
Sometimes the most useful thing we can learn is how to listen to it, and how to gently change it when we need something different.
