About this Event
Our Breastfeeding Basics (In-person) class will discuss the essential aspects of breastfeeding, taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). The class will equip breastfeeding parents with practical information, guidance, and support to enrich the breastfeeding experience. You will gain valuable tools to anticipate and overcome common challenges, while learning to recognize and respond to normal newborn cues and behaviors. This class is delivered in person in Menlo Park.
Class Length: One session, 2.5 hours
Class Fee: $100 per couple
What you will learn:
- Why breastmilk feed?
- Latching and positioning
- Support person's role
- Nursing positions
- Skin to skin
- Signs of successful breastfeeding
- Normal newborn behaviors and hunger cues
- Pumping and storage of breastmilk
- Managing engorgement
Your instructor will model nursing positions and all participants will have the option to practice using an infant doll.
- We will be providing dolls, gloves, and disinfecting wipes. All dolls will be sanitized prior to your class.
At the end of class we will discuss pumping, bottle feeding, and pacifier use. Please feel free to stay if these topics are of interest.
When to take the class: We recommend taking this class at 34-38 weeks of your pregnancy. This class is offered twice a month.
