November’s Breaking News pick is Whistler by Ann Patchett — a story about family, connection, and the unexpected ways our lives become tangled together. At the center of Whistler are characters navigating the relationships that have shaped them: marriages, friendships, family ties, old loyalties, and the choices that continue to reverberate long after they’re made. As their lives intersect, Patchett slowly reveals the histories they carry with them and the complicated truths that sit underneath even our closest relationships.
It’s the kind of character-driven novel where the seemingly small moments matter — and where there’s plenty to unpack once we sit down together.
Who did you understand? Who frustrated you? Which choices would you have made differently? And did the story ultimately work for you?
That’s what Breaking News Book Club is all about. You don’t have to love the book. You don’t even have to like the book. You just have to read it and come ready to talk about it.
