December’s Breaking News Book Club pick is Murder on the Christmas Express by Alexandra Benedict — a festive, twisty locked-room mystery set aboard a train where the passengers are stranded, secrets are piling up, and someone isn’t going to make it to Christmas.Eighteen passengers board the sleeper train from London to the Scottish Highlands just before Christmas. But when heavy snow brings the journey to a halt, the passengers find themselves trapped together in the middle of nowhere.
Then, one of them is found dead.
Former detective Roz Parker was hoping for a quiet trip north to be with her daughter, but instead she finds herself pulled into the investigation. With a killer somewhere aboard the train, Roz has to untangle the clues, uncover what her fellow passengers are hiding, and figure out exactly what happened before anyone else becomes a victim.
Think Christmas atmosphere + closed-circle mystery + a train full of suspects + plenty of secrets to unravel.
And that makes it exactly the kind of book we want for Breaking News Book Club.
Did you solve it? Did the twists work? Who did you suspect? And—most importantly—did the ending deliver?
Remember: you absolutely do not have to love the book to come to book club. Sometimes the books we disagree about give us the very best discussions.
