Join us in exploring the history of our drinking water infrastructure and the legal and environmental factors shaping future proposals.
About this Event

This year's public lecture series begins with Theresa McClenaghan, Executive Director of the Canadian Environmental Law Association, with her talk "Building Big Water: Drinking Water Projects in Southwestern Ontario - Environmental Law Factors."

Sponsored by the Brant Land Trust in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University and the Laurier Institute for Water Science as part of the Natural Resource Awareness and Protection in the Grand River Watershed lecture series.

Over the past several decades there have been various proposals for major drinking water projects in southwestern Ontario, some of which have been built and some of which have not - so far. Building on recent research by the Canadian Environmental Law Association, Theresa will give an overview of the history of some of the existing systems. She will review the drinking water and planning laws that would apply to new proposals, and some of the major factors that have to be considered including impacts on human health, community growth, and long-term environmental resilience.
